The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has introduced the Digital Address System (DAS) in Ward No. 26 with the aim of making the area more technology driven. The chairperson of Ward No.26, Khyamraj Tiwari, officially inaugurated the system.

The digital metric house address system, which operates using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, allows users to easily access detailed information about houses within the ward. According to Tiwari, once the system is fully implemented, comprehensive data on all households in the ward will be readily available.

During the launch, Tiwari installed the first digital house number plate, labelled “09 Lakshya 6111”, at the ward office in Lainchaur. Ward No. 26 covers areas including Lainchaur, Galkopakha, Thamel, Kapurdhara, Samakhushi, Ranibari, and the New Bus Park.

While KMC has been using a metric address system for the past two decades, this marks the first time it has been upgraded with NFC technology. Ward No. 26 is the first ward to adopt the updated version. Each digital number plate includes the previous address and street name, along with a QR code and electronic chip. The new plates also feature both the Universal Google Plus code and a local Nepali code, Tiwari added.
