First Snowfall of the Season in Mustang

The first snowfall of the season has been recorded in Mustang. The snowfall began on Tuesday morning (October 28) in Upper Mustang, including the areas of Korala, Lomanthang Rural Municipality, and Muktinath.

The authorities have urged people to avoid travelling from Kagbeni upward to Muktinath due to the risk of accidents caused by heavy snow along the route.

According to DSP Chhiring Kippa Lama of the District Police Office, thick snow has accumulated on the narrow and winding blacktopped road between Kagbeni and Muktinath, making travel unsafe.

Ward Chairperson Pramesh Gurung of Varagung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality added that villages in high-altitude areas such as Khenga, Jhong, Chhengur, and Phalyak have also received heavy snowfall. He mentioned that the cold has started to affect daily life in the region.

He further explained that early snowfall in Kartik would be beneficial for apples and other crops, as it helps irrigate the deeper layers of farmland soil, making it a blessing for farmers during the winter season.
