The government is set to roll out a new Online Foreigners’ Management Information System from January 1 to improve the registration and monitoring of foreign visitors in Nepal.
Citing recent national events, the Department of Immigration has delayed the launch of its new system, initially planned for October 1. Spokesperson Tika Ram Dhakal announced a two-phased implementation.
The first phase will begin in Kathmandu, where five-star hotels will be required to register foreign guests through the new online system. The second phase, starting on March 1, will expand the requirement to all star-rated hotels across the country, along with airlines, travel and tour companies, and money exchange outlets.
The Department says the system has been developed to strengthen the safety of foreign visitors, streamline information management, prevent potential crimes, and support Nepal’s tourism promotion.
Once implemented, the platform will maintain organised records of foreigners’ stays and activities in Nepal, aiding search, rescue, and security efforts, especially during emergencies.
